Friends of The Redwoods Friends of The Redwoods is a wonderful group of active, fun loving and hard working volunteers dedicated to enhancing the lives of residents of The Redwoods. Over the years, Friends leadership has consisted of Redwoods residents, members of their families, and passionate, mission-driven people from the community at large dedicated to making a difference in the lives of local seniors. The Friends' mission is to support The Redwoods in every way possible, principally through volunteerism and fundraising. The Redwoods is a unique and special home to an extraordinary community of seniors and Friends is a vital partner in this enterprise. CrabFest Fundraising Event The Friends' Annual CrabFest, Silent Auction and Raffle, held every February, is the Friends' premier fundraising event. Residents, family, volunteers and the community are invited to an "all you can eat" feast of Dungeness crab, salad, pasta and a delicious dessert served in a lively party atmosphere. How the Money Is Used Currently most of the funds raised by Friends of The Redwoods support the transportation needs of Redwoods residents by providing the ongoing resources necessary to operate and maintain The Redwoods' bus. The Friends also sponsor year round resident events, such as monthly birthday celebration dinners, weekly wine socials, and Thursday night bingo games. Historically, the Friends have taken on special fundraising projects to address emerging needs and opportunities, such as partnering with Sarlo Foundation to help provide free wireless internet access to all Redwoods residents. |
