Our leadership honors the special relationships shared by staff and residents, and supports staff in assisting, serving and taking care of residents in a professional manner, while also taking the time to get to know residents on a more personal level.

J. Hunter Moore

Chief Executive Officer
J. Hunter Moore has over 30 years experience as a mission-oriented management, operations, and strategic planning professional with a deep interest in innovative, high-quality, affordable senior housing and services. He has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and has worked extensively in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Germany.   Hunter is delighted to bring his entrepreneurial approach to the inclusive, life-enriching culture that is The Redwoods – A Community of Seniors.

Kyle Ruth-Islas

Chief Operations Officer
Kyle D. Ruth-Islas is a third-generation long-term care professional who began his career just after graduating from Sonoma State University with a BA in Psychology in 2013. As part of Kyle’s commitment to lifelong learning, he went on to earn a Master’s in Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco. Kyle began his career by completing his Administrator-in-Training Internship at the Jewish Home in San Francisco and he has served older adults in various levels of care such as assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and acute geriatric psychiatry.

The variety of skills and professional experience of our Board of Directors reflects the diverse backgrounds of our residents. All board members live and/or work locally and are committed to The Redwoods and issues of aging; often, members of the Board have had family members living at The Redwoods.

Andrea Flynn, Vice President
Life Coach and Yoga Teacher and 22-year resident of Mill Valley.

Laura H. Smith, Secretary
Partner, Nicolaides Fink Thorpe Michaelides Sullivan LLP, and 50-year Marin resident.

Richard C. Ronald, Treasurer
Owner of Skyline Properties, LLC.


Daniel D. Bikle
Professor of Medicine and Dermatology at UCSF and Staff Endocrinologist at San Francisco VA Medical Clinic.

Margaret Chu Lucaccini
Architect, Chemist, Marin Master Gardener and Sculptor. Mill Valley resident since 1976.

Jim Day
Partner, Farella Braun & Martel LLP, Advisory Board, The All Stars Project of SF Bay Area.

Peter Gordon
Co-founder/President/CEO/Board Chairman of Crystal Geyser Water company. Trustee, then Chairman of Wells Fargo Funds. Trustee of Colby College.

Attorney, and the President of the Board of Directors of the Community Church of Mill Valley.

Strategic Advisor to Health Care Boards and Executives. Founder of The Roam Collaborative.

Vera Meislin
Community volunteer, Board of Directors of the Marin Theatre Company, Advisory Board of the Mill Valley Library Foundation.

Burton Miller, FAIA
Architect and Urban Planner, former Mill Valley Planning Commissioner, Member MV2040 General Plan Advisory Committee, and President of Tamalpais Park Neighborhood Association. Mill Valley resident since 1993.

Kendra Pollack
Community Member at Heart of the Village and longtime Mill Valley resident.

David S. Rand
Retired attorney, former Member and Chair of Mill Valley Planning Commission. Resident of Mill Valley since 1990.

Bob Reynolds
Retired Investment Banker, Director of Search for Common Ground, Trustee of the Marin Community Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of the Marin Theatre Company.
